The Social History of the Philippines

SEAMEO Regional Centre for History and Tradition ( SEAMEO CHAT ) had a priviledge to provide a broad view of the lecture series on The Social History of the Philippines conducted by Dr. Maria Luisa T. Camagy from the Department of History, College of Social Sciences and Philosophy, University of the Philippines, on 23-27 July 2007, at the Centre.

The lecture series included:

  1. Social History of the Philippines in the 19th century
  2. The Filipina in the Philippine History
  3. Manila in the Throes of Epidemic in the 19th century
  4. The Foreign Community of Manila during the Revolutionary Period
  5. Detenida de Mala Vida: Images of Prostitution in 19th century Filipinas

The five-day lecture was attended by sixty participants; Professors, Associate Professors, Lectures, Ph.D students and MA students from the Departments of History and International Relations of six universities in Yangon: Yangon University, University of Distance Education, University of Foreign Languages, East Yangon University, West Yangon University and Dagon University.

The Participants were given completion certificates by the Deputy Director of the Centre on 27th July,2007, the fifth day of the Lecture
