To discover deep-rooted judicial practices and legal concepts that form the essence of Southeast Asian states and communities in five Southeast Asian countries


To explore traditional methods of resolving individual and social conflicts without violence in order to better understand and incorporate into the modern system.


To compare the separate culture areas of legal traditions, i.e. Islamic, Buddhist and Christian, and investigate how they actually operate in different historical contexts.

The research findings on legal traditions of Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
Publication of the research papers.
