Lecture Series on The Potentiality of Participatory Research Appraisal (PRA) and Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) as a tool for the Rural Development Studies

On 13th January 2014,a lecture series on The Potentiality of Participatory Research Appraisal (PRA) and Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) as a tool for the Rural Development Studies was conducted at SEAMEO CHAT. The resource persons of the lectures are Dr. Ando Kazuo, Associate Professor from the Centre for Southeast Asia Studies, Kyoto University, and Dr. Mohammad Salim, Professor from the Bangladesh Agriculture University. Dr. Kazuo Ando gave the lecture on Emergence of Holistic abd Participatory Approach in Agricultural and Rural Development, and Dr. Mohammad Salim on PRA as a tool of Agricultural System. After the lectures participants were divided into two groups and worked on the factors for the assigned topics. The topics given were, Needs of Rural People, and Factors Affecting Changing Main Yangon University Campus. Members of the two groups had very lively discussions and then the leaders of each group presented their group summary. Altogether there were 60 participants from Yangon University, East Yangon University, West Yangon University, Yangon Institute of Economics, Yangon Institute of Education, Yangon Institute of Distance Education and Yangon University of Foreign Languages. All participants were glad to have a chance to gain knowledge on PRA and PLA, and to practice them with the help of the two resource persons. SEAMEO CHAT is grateful to Dr. Ando and Dr. Salim for their lectures as well.
