Workshop on International Networking Project to Share Experiences of Sustainable Development and to Cope with Natural Hazards of the Periphery of Bengal Bay

The Workshop on International Networking Project to Share Experiences of Sustainable Development and to Cope with Natural Hazards of the Periphery of Bengal Bay was conducted at SEAMEO CHAT on 5-6 January, 2014. The Workshop was held in collaboration with FREDA, Yezin Agricultural University, Myanmar and CSEAS, Kyoto University, Japan. In the Welcome Address, the Acting Director of SEAMEO CHAT thanked CSEAS, Kyoto University for having a chance to give the venue and to participate in the Workshop. It was the final workshop of the five-year project of which the series of workshop were conducted in Guahati, India; Yezin,Myanmar; Hatia, Bangladesh; Kanlugn , Bhutan; and Vientiane, Laos. Twenty papers were presented in six sessions at the Workshop that reviewed activities with reference to the participants’ experiences in several Asian countries to seek the future program and paradigm for Sustainable Development and coping strategies with natural hazards. The sessions are:
- Agriculture and Socio-economic condition in Northeast India
- Agriculture and Socio-economic condition in Lao PDR
- Agriculture and Socio-economic condition in Myanmar
- Wildlife in Myanmar
- Perspective (1) Community, and
- Perspective (2), Natural Hazards
After the two-day workshop, the participants went on a study tour to Bagan and Inlay from 7-12 January,2014.
